Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of edits is this find and replace tool best for?
Use it for repeated word or phrase changes such as product renames, copied template cleanup, terminology updates, and simple bulk edits across plain text.
Paste the source text, enter the exact text you want to find, add the replacement value, and click Replace Text.
This is best for straightforward literal replacements rather than advanced search logic or document formatting changes.
How does matching work on this page?
The search matches the exact text you type, not a regular expression. Characters such as $, *, and ? are treated as ordinary text.
Matching is case-insensitive in the current implementation, which means 'Brand' and 'brand' are replaced together.
All non-overlapping matches in the input are updated in one pass.
What happens if the search field or replacement field is empty?
If the Find this text field is empty, the tool returns the original text unchanged because there is nothing specific to replace.
If Replace with is empty, every matched occurrence is removed from the result, which makes this a quick deletion tool for repeated phrases.
This makes the page useful for both substitution and cleanup tasks.
Which edge cases should I review after replacement?
The tool matches the exact letters you type. It does not look for whole words only, so a search for cat also matches the cat inside category.
Overlapping patterns are not handled as a special case, so it is worth checking the result when the search and replacement text are very similar.
Large pasted documents still run in the browser and may take slightly longer on older devices.
How is this different from Change Text Case?
Find and Replace changes specific strings you name explicitly, such as swapping one brand name, URL, label, or phrase for another.
Change Text Case transforms letter casing across the whole selection or each word, but it does not look for a specific phrase first.
Choose this tool when the change depends on exact content, not just formatting.
